Experiment and outcome
Summary
Experiment and outcome
- An experiment is any process which will result in precisely one out of a preidentified set of possible outcomes .
Sample space
- The set of possible outcomes is often denoted by \(S\) and called the sample space of the experiment.
Example
- Tossing a dice is an experiment if we define the set of possible outcome to be \(S={1,2,3,4,5,6}\) before we toss the dice and the outcome of the experiment to be the number on the upper surface of the dice .
